I wanted a new reg blog post up by now, I'll have to go fudge it up before midnight and then edit the real stuff in later to get the date right. I don't straighten all the edges of everything but I just like .... fung shui for blog/forum symmetry - or synergy. Or something ANYWAY--- I will make a regular blog about having no bankroll and starting over, and tie that to this but I want to say that my first day, while it did not have an auspicious beginning, ended well. Posts: 371 09/03/09 01:00	Obviously I don't have the $ to buy into the WCOOP. I thought I'd give one sat a try if I did well playing cash, so today I played a $39 sat. There I didn't do so well. Then I managed to accidentally (don't ask) register at the last minute in the $4.40 LHE 1K guarantee. Or is it 2K? Anyway - are you kiddin'? I cashed! I couldn't believe it! I should post some of these hands, I got AA and FOUR players jammed three streets - and they held! Historic, yes? I played a bunch of cash on the side with mixed results - so after putting out $43.40 from my $336.66 BR, I ended the day at $331.38! Not so bad. And the week-end is coming up. I seem to be running as lucky right now as unlucky last couple weeks, hoping to ride that streak right through the week-end. If I'm up at 2am I'll look at the $11 sat for the Razz, but I'm kinda more psyched about my cash game right now, anyway. Michael - if you are around, I know you're playing the WCOOP Razz tomorrow - I'll be railing. My advice: fold fast if your hand goes south. Practice more patience than you have ever imagined. People win or cash in big MTTs because they get very very lucky. If you go out, go out playing a great game you can be proud to talk about.

What i mostly fear for today is not being fit and concentrated long enough or even not enough at all (not mentioned just playing bad) - i did not play a bigger MTT since May and rarely played sessions >2h. But: Will try to do my very best and see how this works out, there's nothing more i am able to. Since i played a lot cashgame on not more than one table, i hope this was a bit active against impatience.

Posts: 371 09/03/09 17:23	I didn't have half your experience when I played my first WCOOP and finished 35th. If I'd had a clue, I'd have finished a lot higher, like, when I was 3rd in chips with 47 players left and completely exhausted, I'd have sat out and gone to bed! You have every skill to do really well. The year I cashed, needabanana - a micro player who isn't as good as you are now - made the FT. He then lost his whole roll in less than a year trying to play high stakes without the skill. Just remember this is a long long LONG trny. You can't win it in the first hour. Or second. If you are maintaining an average chipstack, you are doing ok. If you maintain that for the whole tourny - you'll be 4th when you hit the final table! You'll be fine. I'll keep an eye on you and if you get to a table with any high stakes players I know, I'll tell you about them if I know anything and have played them in the past. My experience is this: any good tight game that beats .50/1 can win the WCOOP with a bit of luck. Don't forget to eat and keep your blood sugar up. So far - so good... Lis-

Posts: 31 09/03/09 22:08	This was straining but fun. I was thrilled after seeing their first hands, but so getting no cards was doubled harm. However i did a good job keeping patience. Still a bunch of mistakes, wrong play against the wrong opponents like folding in big pot spots against the loose ones. Oh and i didn't know i'm such a stealing coward. >1sb in the pot, one off - and michael folds... I was like they play back anyway, you easily get trained to that, esp. when that was what they actually did habitually - though with some attention they should have known i was extrem tight. The hand i busted, again, i made no good survival play, starting www raised the completer then semibluffed (which i couldnt afford) hidden pair got raised and stayed in the pot where i should just had to check fold or check call imho. Next time better.

Posts: 371 09/04/09 03:55	First: congratulate yourself on satting in, I didn't and neither did a lot of high stakes players Second: congratulate yourself on good play - maybe you had a lot of aggro players, maybe you should call rivers in huge pots - maybe..... BUT - getting deep in an MTT is about luck far more than anything else. One time SG staked me into some Razz trny at FT. I had OGfathead on my left. Now, I'm not afraid of him, I'd played him before, eliminated him myself once, but this day - completely card dead. I didn't have anything to steal with, and every try, I'd catch paint. It just wasn't to be. What I saw looked just fine. Third: Congratulate self on how far you did get with your no-luck hands. We have a lot of big expectations with these big trnys. We get so disappointed when we just go out. I went out last year and I paid that whole buy-in! I'm not one of those pushy players in a trny. (I think of myself as the Dan Harrington of Razz.) Tonight, to amuse myself, I played the $1 MTT they have every night? I got so busy watching, I sat out the first hour, I donked off my stack the second hour, then, I caught some hands. I ended up at the FT and went out 6th! Next time you want to steal, start out waiting for good hands. Then, in steal position, limp in. When they raise, reraise. It doesn't matter if you win, just let the table see you do it. Next time,. when you want to steal, and you have J92 in steal position, limp in. A lot of the time they fold. About this: starting www raised the completer then semibluffed (which i couldnt afford) hidden pair got raised and stayed in the pot where i should just had to check fold or check call imho. Next time better. Yeah, this is a cash game play, I only do it in the donkaments where you expect them to have crap in the hole themselves. You know, sometimes when you check, they check behind because they think you are trapping, or you find out they are weak, too. (Checking a hidden pair is a good thing sometimes.) This is REALLY hard - so hard - to fold, fold, fold.... I folded myself down to 1.5 BBs in this last tournament. Waiting for the double-up hand - (call - call everyone, triple me, quadruple me, Razz is so good that way.) They did. Sometimes it works, sometimes you just go out. It's hard. Hard to just accept losing before you do it because it's the only way you might win. Sometimes I can't do it, the stress is too much - screw it - I shove it in. I think SG made some errors today. Often when seeing borderline or (what looks to me like) no go calls, i, respectfully thinking, assume they have goods reads. And when it comes to decisions like peeling/not peeling, bluffs etc. i am very curious about their style and if how there's tournament adjusted strategy. But thats a guess, maybe that special fold is due to crap in the hole and the other is to save one to three BB. Did you figure out right/wrong about some special hands?

True, I do make what look like a LOT of bad calldowns. I call almost every river I get to. I most especially call any player I have never seen before to the river to get how they play and also call any player I know who's betting pattern changes. Now here's the thing. This doesn't cost as much as it looks like it does. Those rivers cost a bet. 1 bet. When opponents are bluffing, you make 6-8 or more bets for every river you call. Long term, you'll find enough river bluffing to make it quite worthwhile. At least, I do. But what about all the "chasing" and "calling down?" Well, really, it's only two bets. If I haven't folded 4th, where I usually fold, I'm probably not folding anywhere. It looks like I lose a huge amount. But really, it's only a few bets overall, and when those hands pay off later, and they do, they pay off in big ways./ Then, I look like a FUCKING LOSER LUCKY SUCK-OUT IDIOT. That's me! But I don't because I play Razz and HORSE,. and sometimes other stuff and you can't put that in a single database management system. I'm beginning to think the whole thing is a worthless enterprise for me anymore. (Loading hands into PT, not poker.) So, after the three days I earned.......$0.60 Yup. Sixty - the big 6-0 - cents. Which is better than losing same. I guess. No, yeah - it is. On the upper side, I did earn a shitpot full of FPPs, so am 30% toward the bonus release, and looks like I'll make Silver next week, probably. This is good, I'm trying to earn enough to buy a SCOOP entry into the Razz in the spring. I'm taking Tuesday off for laundry and cooking. I am in desperate need of green chili. I have no idea how people live without a daily dose. Probably aliens. Hang in, play happy - and don't forget there actually are other things in life than poker... Lis-

The worst part was I didn't know I was sick until I donked off a buncha big blinds not being able to concentrate - what the hell...why would I fold there.... before I realized I was coming down with whatever my daughter had been in bed with for her whole three-day week-end. I did finally check my email today and had a question from a guy I played with at micro about the hand rating system. So, as soon as I can stay awake and think - sometime this week-end, I'll be doing a new blog on it especially geared for those who find it a bit much at first. I keep wondering when I am going to get to a 9/11 that doesn't make me feel sad. It all just brings up a lot of useless -EV maundering about the aftermath we still live in. The freedoms we allowed to be taken away and don't seem to have the energy to demand back. I guess if we all wanted to talk about this we wouldn't be in a Razz forum. Posts: 371 09/12/09 16:58	.. these days at the tables, everyone seems afflicted with FPS. I started on a big downer but managed to eke out winning sessions on both my tables by night's end. Some guy I never saw before bluffed me off one winning hand on the river - I broke one of my rules which is: always call down if I've never played them before. Newboy flashed his pair after I mucked my J hi. Got me to thinking of how many hands I'd won by bluffing and that I can't remember ever showing one. I don't even have my preferences set up so that I can. I rarely have my chat turned on, last night Stars had me do one of those "bot checks" where they put a word in the chatbox you have to type in and enter in 100 seconds. I'll have to go check the chat and see if flash the hand guy was one of those trying to get everyone on tilt or if someone at the table was trying to get my attention. Be easier to come here. Don't let 'em tilt ya - remember you've already laid down plenty of hands where someone bluffed you and you never knew it, you've already won many hands where you bluffed and they didn't know it. The flasher doesn't change any of that just being a normal part of play so don't let yourself have some "not normal" emotional reaction to some asshole being an asshole. Which means... ...play happy! Posts: 371 09/13/09 01:46	Another okay night except I went out short of the $ in the $1 Razz. The good news is that I'm 334 FPPs from making Silver VIP. Why is that good? Because there are 1446 FPPs to go to get the bonus released. Once I make Silver, they'll give my 1.5 FPPs for every 1 I am earning now. Which means, adjusting for sick days, earning an average of 80 FPPs a day, I will make 120 a day and get the bonus I had 6 mos. to earn in the first month without too much strain. I am playing a lot of 1/2 on a pretty short BR, but it's more consistent than .50/1 which means less overall variance. So far, even with the last downswing, we are at about $370, I'd be delighted at this point to break evens here and add the bonus so in October making that $600 mark is a reasonable goal. I think people who play holdem must think this is really slow, but I almost never play more than two tables and I am not able to play more than a few hours a day. I think it's time for someone with what I consider a "normal" life, that is - responsibilities outside poker and pizza, where 200-300 hands a day is a big day, to do this and for us all to stop thinking we have to live up to some standard set by a lot of strangers we don't know. I just looked at my PT and it says I make 4.28 BB/100 overall. And that's pretty damned good. Oh yeah - and PAD rocked this week. If you didn't see it, catch it in reruns. (Or was this a rerun? Posts: 371 09/15/09 02:06	First, I have to say something about Seat 2. I first see him playing 30/60. Now, I'm obviously not playing 30/60 right now, but I will be. So, part of what I do during the sessions is watch the higher stakes tables, mark players I haven't seen before, note their play so I'm not working in the dark as I move up. The second time I see him he is at 2/4 and now he is at my 1/2 table. He's a kid with too much money, way too much mouth who seems to think Razz is easy. Not for him apparently. This hand is about developing a read as you go along and doing what you hate which is folding the river when you "make" your hand. What I know going in is: Seat 2 is a cowboy, I don't think he's slumming I think he got his ass kicked at higher stakes. Seat 7 is not known to me, except I have one session with him at .50/1 and made no specific notes. What I do know is that passive brickers like to limp in, and check until they know they are ahead. What I also know is that they often limp all their hands, including good ones. And I know I have no history on these guys. I expect Mr High Stakes to be too loose. I do wonder if I had raised 4th if he would have folded to a bet on 5th? Interestingly, if the pot was raised on 3rd, I probably would have. If the other players hands weren't so bad, or we'd been HU, I might have folded 4th. Did his passive play cost him money? Probably as Seat 2 would have stayed just not to get "pushed around." Or did it make him money because I would have been more aggressive with a larger pot and he might have folded? They are so simple, aren't they, these Razz hands? I was also sitting with virtual strangers and so I didn't have any trouble getting action and managed to luck out. So, (trying not to obsess over exact daily reports) the BR is around $450 halfway through the month. I'll have to go look at PT for the Razz results. I had a bit of the flu last week and still don't seem to have much stamina for long sessions so the FPPs aren't accumulating as quickly as I hoped, but still moving along steadily. I just can't complain about days where I win 70 BBs. Here's a hand from a later session, also good but not as good, with another of these guys who show up at 30/60 and then drop like rocks to 1/2 - see if you can guess what everyone has by the action. I folded 3rd here, but used the info from it to take a few chips off the guy later. And posted in the 2+2 forum. I did play with him just a few times at 2/4 and 10/20 - but he mostly played Full Tilt. I did know he was bankroll building himself again on Stars and was at 1/2 sometimes. It's funny, no one intimidates me at the table, some make me more wary, of course, but I never sat with anyone I was afraid to play with. He always makes me nervous, though, probably because before I ever figured out what boardlock was I knew his name. I had a great session but even though he was directly to my left and I waited for really good hands to complete from steal position - every one of those bastards bricked! I was sure he wasn't raising me every time with premium stuff but of course, you have to fold. And I did. And where did all the Razz players come from all of a sudden? Not complaining but - it's Tuesday fer the luvva Pete! It was so good out there I had this happen at .25/.50. (BTW, .25/.50 is better for FPPs than .50/1, because they don't pay partials at .50/1 and they also don't make that many big hands there.) Posts: 371 09/20/09 00:26	Once again when I do this I have a hard time telling exactly what the total should be here - not that I can't read the cashier's page - but the PT stats never match as long as I play HORSE. Anyway - there is 532.03 in the BR (started at $300). I haven't played as much as I had planned, but still, the $ moves in the correct direction (for now) and I'm making steady progress against the pile of points I have to earn for my bonus. I am 122.75 from silver, which I'd hoped to reach last week before the stupid flue came to our house and the days I've been taking off for writing. I think I need to put the writing on the back burner until I make those last FPPs because if I don't make silver this month I'll be really pissed at myself. Oh yeah - PT says I'm making 55.94 BB/100 if you only count hands from 9/1 to now. Standard, right? I wonder if the rather stupid announcement that the "recession" is over ("but many people will still be suffering") that I read on one of my news blurbs the other day has anything to do with more players or the WCOOP or what? Whatever it is, it's nice to be on an upswing, and good to be feeling like I'm playing well, even when losing, and even better to be approaching one of my goals for the month. AND - the tourists are gone and the beach - almost entirely empty now - beckons. The weather is gorgeous and I have new book to read. Play happy - take some time for fun and family- Lis-

I've been earning .23 FPPs per hand over the course of the month and now that I'll be getting 1.5 FPPs every time I earn one, with only 1105 more needed to the bonus release, I could literally do it before month's end if I maintain my average hands per day played of 236. WHAT!!?? I hear y'all laughing - you only play 236 hands in a day? yup I'll be blogging at some point about this, and about what expectations we have of ourselves, but for right now - yeah - that's the average. Wanna make sumpin' outa that? Of course, every time I get to thinking more about the goals than the poker I end up losing money. I ran into a bit of a wall yesterday and then I was close to even today when three-tabling (2 Razz/1 HORSE) I made a couple really plays - I'd like to use the excuse that I was being disconnected and reconnected and tables were popping up in weird places, all true, but still, there's no reason to play some huge pot when I should be protecting a win, ESPECIALLY when three-tabling Stud games during an internet fubar. So I only made 6 bucks instead of 26. I identify most of the leaks in my game as losing concentration when tired or in this sort of situation. Still. Posts: 371 09/24/09 15:57	I'm pretty much ignoring things like BR total and FPPs right now. That's going to take care of itself, as I play. I am working on finding and plugging a few leaks. I seem to have developed "Negreanu Syndrome" where you know you are beat but call, anyway. It seems to go like this: "Ah, crap, he just made that 6 and I'm drawing to a 7.....he could've paired.....he would still bet here.....oh well I made this 8 I can't fold the river now....." Yeah, I can. I had semi-success today: calling down one I shouldn't have and folding a couple I'm confident of. It's a balancing act between donking off the chips, good calls where opponents are FOS, and calling down once in a while just to slow down the bluffs. Someplace in there is the ideal ratio. My personal answer is: when I have that thought ah crap he made it - fold. When I have that I dunno, I guess he might be good here - call with good live hands.
